Hello World

Mighty Mouse. Age 3-ish.

From a very early age I drew constantly.

There’s something important about what we pursue unprompted when we’re young, but most of us lose that something because people have other plans for us. Anyway, now I’m 32, and I’ve decided to become an artist.

Sure, I’ve been a web designer for 11 years, but being a designer was only enough to keep me sane. Hey, at least I didn’t go to law school like my family wanted. That could have been fatal.

My ace in the hole came out of those 11 years though: I’m immersed in the internet. Knowing how to self publish, network, and sell my wares without having to beg anyone’s permission is powerful stuff.

My goals for Doodleist are:

  1. Help me make a living as an artist.
  2. Help others embrace their creativity. See the manifesto.
  3. Promote other artists. I’ll start by posting interviews and sample work from my artist friends, pieces done by students in my informal workshops, and posting reader submissions.

I’m very excited about launching Doodleist, thanks to all the friends, family, authors, and artists who’ve helped me along the way. I owe you one.

Congrats on launching the site! I love the name/domain and the whole idea behind it.

It’s all about pencil mileage … even if your pencil was the mouse for a while.

Looking forward to the evolution of your work.

Thanks Heather, glad you like the manifesto. It started as 3 points, but that was just one too many :-)

JR, love “even if the pencil was a mouse”. Every experience is useful in some way.

Hi, I was wondering if you would take a look at my doodles and give me an idea of what I can do with them. Since my dad passed away a month ago, I can’t seem to stop making them. I have several more that I haven’t yet posted, but whats up on the website is an example of what I do. Thanks. Heidi

Heidi, love your stuff. They look like tiny planets. I like the one that isn’t a circle, maybe explore doing mostly a circle but with trees and stuff growing out. Totally frame and hang some of these.
